Jiangxi steps up environmental stewardship



 The Jiangxi government issued an urgent statement calling on greater efforts to conserve energy and reduce emissions across the province in the latter half of the year. The move came after Jiangxi''s energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP rose by 0.35 percent over a year earlier in the six months to June 2011, a reason why the province had received “early warning” by the central government for the second consecutive quarter.

By the end of this September, local authorities will have overseen the closure of outmoded manufacturing facilities totaling 1.08 million tons for pig iron, 878,000 tons for steel and 300,000 tons for coke while applying the differentiated power fee policy among heavily energy-consuming sectors to boost their “restructuring”.
